ETFs have been available in North America since the early 1990s. Only recently have they caught the imagination of investors in Europe, where they have seen significant growth in the last year. In this article, we provide an overview of the ETF market in Europe. We also examine carefully practical issues that investors should consider, liquidity issues, short exposures, costs, and futures block trading and exchange of futures for physicals with ETFs.
