Veld-Merkoulova YR 2007 UL https://pm-research.com/content/10/1/56.abstract AB In recent years, investments in collectibles, such as wine and art, have received increased attention. However, very little research has been done on investments in stamps. This is remarkable, because there are more than 30 million stamp collectors worldwide and there is an active trade in stamp collections. In November 2002 Stanley Gibbons, a large British stamp dealer, introduced the SG 100, an index for stamp investments. This article examines the benefits of investments in stamps to both U.K and U.S. investors. The results show that for a British (UK) investor the returns on the stamp index are lower than for stock indexes such as the FTSE 100 and the FTSE 350. However for American investors, the unhedged returns slightly outperform returns on stocks.TOPICS: Real assets/alternative investments/private equity, mutual funds/passive investing/indexing, developed
